Pride Month, celebrated each June, is a powerful time to uplift and honor the LGBTQ+ community, but the spirit of Pride should not be confined to one month on the calendar. While June brings parades, rainbow flags, and global celebrations of diversity, the pursuit of equality, acceptance, and visibility for LGBTQ+ people is an ongoing journey. Continuing to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community beyond Pride Month is essential for fostering lasting social change. Through education, advocacy, and allyship, individuals and communities can extend the values of Pride all year long, ensuring that LGBTQ+ individuals feel recognized, safe, and valued every day.
One way to continue the spirit of Pride throughout the year is by supporting LGBTQ+ owned businesses and organizations and of course, LBTQWomen want to raise up LBTQWomen owned and managed businesses – just look at the OUTCompanies page.
Their work and contributions to the community continue long after the parades are over.
Similarly, supporting LGBTQ+-owned businesses not only helps uplift entrepreneurs but also sends a message of inclusion and solidarity. Shopping at these businesses, promoting them within your network, and choosing to spend your money in ways that support LGBTQ+ communities are practical ways to maintain your commitment to equality.
True celebration of Pride requires more than just visible support during June; it requires creating environments where LGBTQ+ individuals feel safe, seen, and supported every day. There are different lesbian bars dotted around the world that give us spaces all year round where we feel safe and at home; like She bar in London, Cubbyhole in NyC, B327 in Athens, La Mutinerie in Paris to name just a few.
These bars offer all of us a home for all of our moods and different occasions, whether we are with friends, on a date, looking for a date or even on our own.
Communities can also promote inclusivity by hosting events, workshops, and discussions that focus on LGBTQ+ issues throughout the year, rather than confining these conversations to Pride Month. These efforts help to normalize the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in all aspects of life, rather than treating them as a separate or niche group.
Pride is more than a month-long celebration; it is a continuous commitment to the values of equality, inclusivity, and human rights. While June provides an opportunity to celebrate progress and amplify LGBTQ+ voices, the work of advocacy, allyship, and education must continue throughout the year. By supporting LGBTQ+ organizations, educating ourselves, being active allies, and fostering inclusive spaces, we can ensure that the spirit of Pride endures long after the rainbow flags are taken down. Only by committing to these values year-round can we create a world where LGBTQ+ individuals are truly free to live authentically and without fear.
If you think this is important, please reach out to your friends and colleagues who are running LBTQWomen businesses and get them to list here; list your own company – sole traders and companies – all are welcome It is entirely complimentary until 25 June 2025 – so we can ensure you understand what value this can bring to yours, or your network’s company.
